Schools
The first record of a school was in 1728. It was situated near the Rectory and run by Frances Mansel.This was replaced by Saville Road School in 1961.
There are records of a Gents Boarding School in Moorgate, in 1834, owned by Sarah Eversfield and conducted by Jas. Appleton. In 1849 Elizabeth Davison, ran the Boarding School
The National School
The National School was built in 1873 at a cost of £850 to accomodate 220 scholars
In 1849 William Dixon, was teaching at the National School, in 1856, William Bywater and in 1862 Mary Brown; in 1890 alterations were made costing £258, by Rev. Thomas Atkinson; the school had a population of 210 and a clerical income of £268. The attendance was 158.
