History
Collieries in Whiston
Thomas Pearson, born on 18th April, 1778, was the proprietor of Herringthorpe Colliery. Pearson seems to have originated from Whiston. The 1807 Poll Books lists Thomas Pearson and Thomas Pearson junior, farmers, at Whiston and the 1822 Directory lists Thomas Pearson, churchwarden. The 1828 and 1833 Directories list Pearson as a coal master, valuer and civil engineer of Herringthorpe, in the Parish of Whiston.
