A document held at Rotherham Archives Ref:213/C/84/3 - date: 10/11 August 1812 states that Thomas Pearson of Guilthwaite, Whiston, gent. was eldest brother and heir at law of Joseph Pearson of Povy, Dronfield Derbyshire. Thomas farmed at Guilthwaite on land leased from the Westby's

Thomas Pearson was living at Old Hall Farm, Herringthorpe in 1816.
This was situated on Herringthorpe Lane, opposite Herringthorpe Hall
By 1831 Thomas had died and Joseph and Sarah Roberts were of Wath-on-Dearne. They had a daughter Ann

Thomas Pearson
Rotherham Archives hold details of railway and colliery records drawn or collected by Thomas Pearson, a colliery manager and secretary of the Sheffield and Rotherham Railway. Reference176/B
He was the proprietor of Herringthorpe Colliery and managed collieries in the Holmes area for G. W. Chambers.
Pearson originated from Whiston. The 1807 Poll Books lists Thomas Pearson and Thomas Pearson junior, farmers, at Whiston and the 1822 Directory lists Thomas Pearson, churchwarden. The 1828 and 1833 Directories list Pearson as a coal master, valuer and civil engineer of Herringthorpe, Whiston.
The Law Advertiser of 1824 lists Thomas Pearson, now or late of Herringthorpe, Whiston, York, miller became bankrupt in February, 1824. His daughter Sarah m. Joseph Roberts of Wath on Dearne and had a daughter Ann.
Thomas Pearson junior, became secretary of the Sheffield and Rotherham Railway in 1836 and moved to live in Sheffield. He served until the SRR was absorbed by the Midland Railway in 1845.
Emmanuel Pearson
Emmanuel Pearson married Sarah from Langwith Derbyshire. Emmanuel died in 1869 and in 1871 Sarah Pearson, Annuitant, a widow aged 40 was living in Whiston with her children, all born in Whiston:
- Matilda age 13
- William age 10
- Eva age 8 married William Charles Harrison
- Tom age 6
- Emmanuel age 1
In the Sheffield Directory of 1822, Emmanuel Pearson, Iron Founder was at 87, Great Pond Street, Sheffield. In 1829 Crowley & Pearson were Boot, Shoe Heel and Toe Plate Manufacturers based at Pond Street Sheffield. By 1852 Emmanuel Pearson was with Crowley & Pearson, ironfounders, machine makers, and boot-heel, toe-plate, metallic letter, manufacturers, at Kelham Works, Kelham Island. By 1857 the business was Crowley Jno. & Co., Kelham works, Kelham island, and Manchester. Emmanuel retired to Whiston from the Iron Foundry.
By 1881 Sarah was living with children: Eva, a Jewellers Apprentice, Tom, Scholar and John Edward age 13.
