Whiston Families

Foers

William Foers was born in Whiston and christened about 1758. On 18th March, 1783, he married a Hannah Frost(b 1763 Ravenfield) at Rotherham.

James married Mary Catherine Frith also from Whiston on 13/02/1822. The 1841 census shows James is a farmer at Guilthwaite. Children of James and Mary C. Foers:

Charles, son of Thomas and Mary was born on 14/11/1820 at Morthen, christened in 1821 at Rotherham Parish Church. Buried 17/03/1879 Rotherham General Cemetery. Eliza Jarvis was born 8/02/1823 at Masbro. Buried 27/11/1861 Rotherham Cemetery. Children of Charles(c1820) and Eliza(c1823) (nee Jarvis):

Children of George Firth and Elizabeth Foers(Nee Banks):

Sarah Banks was a Servant - 1851 census. She married George(Truth/Firth) Foers Jan/feb/Mar 1860 in Rotherham A Boarding House Keeper. 1871 census Living at Henry St Rotherham and recently widowed. It seems that Frank and Percy were children of George and Sarah.

By 1881 Sarah Foers was a widow living in Whiston with her mother Sarah Banks age 78, and her children: Frank Foers(b1861) and Percy Foers.

In 1881 the census shows Frank living at The Crofts with his son Frank C.age 3, a niece, Mary M. Foers, and 2 servants. No mention of his wife.

 

A tenancy agreement of 6 January 1926 was made where William Edward Foers and William Alton Foers of Upper Whiston, were farming 26 acres 1 rood 22 poles of land in Whiston and Ulley Parishes, known as Far Lower Close and Lower Meadow, and The Ten Acres from 2 February 1926 at a rent of £34 per annum.

A further agreement dated 23 March 1927 was agreed, between the same parties, of a messuage, farm and 42 acres 2 roods 19 poles of land in Whiston and Ulley at a rent of £60 per annum. A Schedule of ten fields were included. Source:Reference: 86/B/136/1
